I'm not usually that compelled to share E. coli stories, but this one goes into a lot of depth on how burgers are produced and why they are so hard to completely eradicate E. coli from.
I don't eat much beef and try to get the Painted Hills stuff, more local, but I may just give it up completely now. BF would be proud :)
I eat beef and this will likely will not make me stop. That said I don't buy my beef at the store. We raise, well, have our beef raised then butchered at a place we know. I suplement this with venison, fish, and poultry... Most of which I harvest with those evil things called guns :)
Yes, I do, and I have to say it's not easy! I don't know why they say it is...
We also have plans for our new house and garden. We canned a crap load of stuff this year, I can't wait till the next few years.
I have always wanted a green house too. I imagine, herbs and tomatos, and good veggies all year long! I didn't get my tags this year though. I will most likely get my duck stamps and upland game tags... I am so busy still with this damn house who knows. I spent all day Saturday and part of today backfilling a 568 ft ditch. Good mutha truckin' times.
I'd rather someone hunt their meat, face the fact that they are killing an animal, understand where their meat comes from than have the hidden killing of raising cattle/chicken/fish for slaughter and never thinking about the fact that there was once an animal behind the meat.
That being said, I had a hard time when we went crabbing putting live crabs into boiling water. It is definitely easier to buy it from the store.
I'm busy protecting 25 wild turkeys that come to feed in my yard every day (getting attached to the 25 twenty-five pound birds and Thanksgiving is coming up)...
Thinking about giving frozen turkeys out to anyone who doesn't shot them :)
Yeah, Turkey hunting is a big deal. Not really in this region. Kind of like Boar hunting in the south. I have all kinds of wild turkeys at my place. I have to admit that I do like the taste of the hormone'd, farm raised turkey's though...
Does anyone really look at those nasty pictures? I mean, the articles are very well written! Or so I've been told!
Crap. You were going to give me some jerky? I love jerky! And venison, too?
Damn.
Hey, you know I'm not big on guns. I have to say those things...I'm a liberal for crying out loud! Don't hold it against me! If it makes you feel better, I'd probably never go to a "Let's end hunting" march!

WOW... That sucks.

That's awesome that you raise/hunt your own.
ReplyDelete"I suplement this with venison, fish, and poultry... Most of which I harvest with those evil things called guns :)"
That's the best use I can think of for a gun...well, except that obviously cops need them.
Does this mean that you shoot fish in a barrel?
:)

I think hunting is terrible. I'd never do it. I'd be fine if it were banned.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I very much like the taste of elk, deer and duck, so if you have any extra...
Hey! I'm a hypocrite! I know...big deal! It's a fight between stomach and mind and stomach wins!

Hey, I'm glad you're still here, momofthree...haven't heard too much from you lately!
ReplyDeleteSo, you don't want the wild turkey's killed, but you're ok with farm-raised, mass-killed ones? Are you a hypocrite like me and Tom? :)
Still here :). Reading you daily !
ReplyDeleteSeems like every person I tell about my turkeys says they have a "turkey license".
Didn't even know they existed, let alone were so popular to have on you. Turkey License???
Now if they wanted to shoot coypu in my yard, I would tell them to knock themselves out -
BTW - I buy turkey for the - uh - cranberry sauce...*sort of like guys buying playboy for the articles*

ReplyDeleteStarlings...
"I think hunting is terrible. I'd never do it. I'd be fine if it were banned."
ReplyDeleteSay it ain't so Tom! It would be fine if it were banned? I was going to give you some jerky, or some venison steaks sometime. Not now, Ooooh no!
