Difference being, Sgrooge made the choice to be giving by himself. It wasn't Government mandated!
I would add that the further theme or dare I say "moral" to the story is: Live your life, and be generous and kind. A horrible theme I know, but some like that/those sort(s) of uplifting idea(s).
Scrooge made the choice after three ghosts harassed him for an entire evening. Scrooge should pay his far share of taxes. It is lack of empathy and charity that makes one a Scrooge, not a distaste for any holiday.

Your right, he made the "choice" after three ghosts made "him" see the error of "his" ways. Strangely enough, not a Government official legislating it!

Little Drummer Boy is actually on of the better songs. I like Christmas, in moderation.
