I think it's cool that the ministries are calling for a collective renouncement of disruptions at town halls by all Christians regardless of sect. It is not clear whether or not other religions have been called as well. I think it would be great if they called other religious groups outside Christianity to join in.
I don't think they are enforcing civility, but simply encouraging it in their followers. These are religious leaders and why should they not state that a moral way to be is to be civil and to call upon those who share their faith to act in this way? After all, what is the job of religious leaders?
Actually this does seem like a cool group. It's good, but as far as enforcing civility I think the secret service or homeland security should be on it.
The main point I got from this is that in a world full of indefinite holy-wars, it is nice to see differing sects come together in unity for a peaceful purpose.

ReplyDeleteI appreciate the sentiment, but it's not really religions jobs to enforce civility. Glad they do it anyways because nobody else does.
ReplyDelete(if the town hall disruptors were anti-war protesters in the Bush era, they would have been tased by now.)

ReplyDeleteIs the role of these religious leaders similar to that of the honorable Rev. Wright?
ReplyDeleteThank God Obama didn't listen to him for those twenty or so years. :)
