Corvallis should embrace solar power and energy farming (Aug. 12)

Is the alternative energy market the key to Corvallis's economic stability?

  1. I'd love to have solar panels on my house. They are quite an investment, though.

  2. How can cost be a factor when you're saving the world? :)

  3. I suppose if I thought that simply putting solar panels on my house would save the world, I would find a way to do it. There are lots of things that would need to be done to save the world, but solar panels might help with climate change.

I'd like to think that if money weren't an issue I would do things like put solar panels on my house instead of buying a gas-guzzling sports car. We all have to live within our means though. I suppose I could buy solar panels instead of putting money into my retirement account, but my logic is that I need to be able to survive in retirement to be able to save the world :)

Everyone is selfish to some extent, I suppose. I do have Blue Sky for my electric...no I don't have a lawn sign. But I realize that many people cannot afford the extra money on their electric bill to support this energy source. I don't put them down for that.

Of course, if alternative energy were subsidized like the fossil fuel industry is, we could all have solar panels and afford it, just like we do gasoline.

  4. For no other reason but strategic reasons I completely agree with you!

Also I may be selfish but the only reason I am getting energy star appliances, tankless water heater(s), and those crappy light bulbs, is to save me and my family money... I do recycle though. Does that up my save the world Karma?

  5. Hmmm, let's see...do you recycle just for the cash back, or what?

Are you sure you can live with the fact that you aren't just saving money but the planet too? :)

  6. We do it to save room in the trash mainly... I don't want to pay for the huge can! In an indirect way I guess I am doing it for the cash back... :)

I drive Honda's for the gas mileage, so there again I am kind of saving the world through less gas consumption! :)
