  1. I agree that this message would be better received from a Republican speaking to its base. Pelosi is right that threatening, intimidating posture can escalate into violence, but it may have been better couched in terms of both sides contributing to violence in our nations history.

There was a great deal of violence in the Vietnam protests. The Kent State murders are another tragic example of what can happen when protestors get violent. In the days leading up to the incident, the protestors were breaking windows, throwing bottles, lighting fires in streets.

A joint message from both sides would be even better.

  2. I think she spoke because she is scared, and she has every reason to be with Glen Beck threatening to poison her.

  3. I didn't know about the Glen Beck bit. I wouldn't say that he threatened her, Ajai. I'd say he is a tasteless ass and that he was showing hatred and that anyone who is a fan of is is also a tasteless ass. No, he shouldn't be joking that way because as Pelosi said you don't know what kind of nut-job is listening to him. I do wonder about the Sean Penn reference, if that had anything to do with Milk, but it would be pure speculation.

  4. Perhaps it is not overt, but I see an implied threat in the bit.

What's astonishing is the way no Republican will speak out against this type of stuff. They will eventually speak out against it, but unfortunately someone is going to have to die before that happens.

  5. I agree that Republicans should speak out against such behavior. I also think Beck is riling up his base, if not directly threatening Pelosi. He should be ashamed of himself.
