  1. "Iraqi homosexuals did not live in fear or feel forced to leave their homes and villages when former president Saddam Hussein ruled the country, says Hossein Alizadeh of International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission. Homosexual men faced death threats and warnings after the 2003 U.S. invasion, Alizadeh said, because Saddam's ouster left power vacuums for religious militias."

I know the Huffington post is a far left media outlet. So does this mean that indirectly the U.S. is now responsible for the deaths of these people? Am I reading too much into this article?

All of that aside, this is horrible no matter what side of the political isle you get your news...

  2. The U.S is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. One does not need to be far left to have open eyes.

  3. I just can't stand the mentality of this type of fundamentalism. What kind of sick person thinks to themselves: I am doing gods work and I don't like that sodomite so I'm going to kidnap them, tie them up, beat and torture them, mangle them, rape and sodomize them, then finally kill them and desecrate their corpse. Just don't fall in love with another man and express that love...that would be perverse...

  4. War has consequences. One of the consequences of getting rid of Saddam was the "vacuums for religious militias." as is mentioned.

Is the US at fault. To some degree, yes. You have to take the good with the bad in war, this was part of the bad...not sure what the "good" was.

Well said Tom... I agree, and would say the good would be a murder on a very large scale is no longer in power. The minorities and dissidents I assume are happy on some level... I have talked with returing soliders who have said they saw a lot of good being done all over the Country. Infrastucture, schools, ect...

I can't either, but alas, this is human nature. It is also a religious and a cultural issue within Iraq and other fundamentalist Islamic Countries. We even have some of the same issues while not as prevelant here in the U.S. I have to think that Democracy might help a tidge...

It isn't human nature, as Ajai said. This was taught to them, the fundamentalist idea that homosexuality is immoral and that, therefore, homosexuals should be punished. No one is born with those ideas.

  10. Just to clarify, so I don't get the Anti-gay label... I say again, I think that violence against homosexuals like the type that is happening in Iraq; or anywhere else in the world is horrible!

What I am saying is that it IS human nature to be vile, violent, and distructive towards each other!!! I will admit that on a daily basis I want to punch people I view as stupid right square in the face. Luckily I have that internal chip in my brain that tells me, no you shouldn't do that.

I would add that I don't think you are born with the idea to drown you children in a bath tub, and hide the body in a suitcase. Guess what? It happens! Hence human nature!

  11. Giving an example of what a psychopath does is not a case for human nature, IMO.

However, to some degree I would say, yes, it is human nature to fight. That is usually when there is some resource to fight over, just as an animal would fight over the last piece of meat. But it is also human nature to feel empathy for another (psychopaths lack this, BTW).

I'd say the parable about which entity one feeds is fitting here.
