The aftermath: A new reality for President Obama

The Nuance President

  1. I tend to have the thinking that if both sides are unhappy with a decision, then there is probably something right about it.

I have to say to the Left: I don't like war either, but Obama made it perfectly clear in the election campaign that he would consider more troops in Afghanistan.

And to the criticism of a timeline for a pullout? Get real, it's about time there was a game plan. I only hope that it is at least close to the desired time frame. Iraq wasn't as soon as we thought and hoped.

You go Barack. Sorry you were handed such a damned mess.

  2. It would be nice if he said 'were getting the hell out of there now,' but lacking that, at least we have some semblence of an exit strategy.

  3. Yeah, I know Ajai. I honestly don't know what to think about the escalation. I heard a commentary a while ago from someone in Pakistan who said that if we pull out now it will be even worse for American/Middle East relations. They said that in Iraq too, though.

One things for sure, we should definitely be putting some of the resources into infrastructure and not simply more soldiers as Kristof points out.
