Interesting letter... I do like the suggestion at the end. I would have to ask however, does that mean we would have to switch out all the crosses in Arlington? What about crosses on the side of the highways?

Or stars of David, but no, I would not think it would mean that.
ReplyDeleteI guess I just wonder where we draw a line.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I misread the letter. Correct me if I am wrong.
If we talk about Crosses (the Star of David, a Penagram ect) being displayed on Public land, (and some being offended) by which leads to their removal where do we stop? I understand that anything "Christian" is, and will always be under attack, but if we start there how far do we go?
I do like the idea of boots, and helmets though...
I see your point, and also consider the ramifications of court rulings.
ReplyDeleteI did not read the original editorial, and I'm not a lawyer, but if I was I would argue that the Mojave Reservation memorial does violate the establishment clause. One Christian symbol to identify all World War I dead is certainly conflating religion with the State. By contrast Arlington Cemetery contains 39 different religious symbols.

ReplyDeleteAnother intersting perpective...
Definitely interesting, replete with imagined didacticism.
ReplyDeleteIs that how you read it? It's amazing, and cool how two people can perceive something in totally different ways. I find that "interesting".
ReplyDeleteThis particular letter writer takes many liberties with logic.
