I see that one of the comments (posted by a Beavers Fan) states that we should be asking what other countries are doing to curb their contribution to climate change. I find this view pretty immature. We praise ourselves for supposedly being world leaders who the rest of the world look up to, let's step up to the plate first.
I am sure China, India, and Russia will see our noble efforts and change there ways! We'll continue to destroying our economy while they drill off the Florida coast...
Skyrocketing energy costs due to tax and trade in the short term. Funny thing is, These policies will hurt the main block of Democratic voters. Low income people trying to heat there homes and drive to work! President Obama said it himself. Energy bills will skyrocket. There will be un-intended, or "intended" effects on our economy... No way there won't be.
If history is any indication as to Russia, or China's intentions; it won't be voluntary. Who's going to pressure them? The U.N.? They both have veto power and are permenant members. Good luck! We may be able to get India in line. Maybe.
Don't get me wrong. I am all for, and understand the need for a "strategic" distancing from forgien oil and natural gas. I just don't see it as a save the world thing. From a National security sense we need to come up with alternative energy sources. If we save the world at the same time then great.

ReplyDeleteTwo things:
ReplyDelete#1) I guess we will never know if those countries would follow suit(be it voluntarily or by pressure) if we don't step up.
#2) I think it a myth that changing our energy sources will lead to economic decline.

Who are we to tell anyone to get in a line we aren't in?
